Alberta's energy riches will likely lead to growth in Canada's mining and oil and gas extraction industries going forward. Still, Rahnema urges perspective. Though a boom in employment is probable, this industry only accounted for 170,000 jobs in Canada in 2010, or one per cent of the total country's employment. Even with a doubling or even tripling of employment in mining and oil and gas extraction by 2025, this sector will still be rather small on the national scale.
