Taxes on the rich

Though the hikes will not quite rival what a top court has recently ruled an "unconstitutional" proposed 75 per cent tax in France, the wealthy in Canada will find an extra hand in their pocket this year. In many provinces across the country, earners in the highest tax brackets are getting an extra hit, and in some cases you don't have to be a millionaire to feel the effects. In Ontario, for instance, those earning $500,000 or more per year will find their marginal rate increase to 49.53 per cent in 2013, while those earning more than just $100,000 per year in Quebec will find their marginal rate increase to 49.97 per cent.
