Top speaking fee: $270,000

In May of 2007, when he was still campaigning to become U.S. president, Rudy Giuliani made it clear he didn't need the job for its salary. That month, Giuliani filed a financial disclosure report detailing his recent earnings, which were abundant thanks to the lucrative time spent on the public speaking trail. According to the filing, the former New York mayor was handed cheques totalling $9.2 million for public speaking engagements in the 13 months beginning in January 2006, but that didn't even include his biggest payout: $270,000, awarded to the Republican by private equity firm Sage Capital Group in 2005.
