Indeed, the shelf lives of products we once loved sometime seem alarmingly short. Yet, that's not to say here today/gone tomorrow novelties are something to ridicule. Take the Pet Rock, for example, which burst onto the scene in 1975, sold a million units and quickly faded into memory as the ultimate "get rich quick" scheme. Despite all that, the popular fad still holds a special place in history - and there's something to be said about items that can capture the world, no matter how brief their grasp.
