Synonymous with hippie culture and now a collector’s item, it’s safe to say that the Volkswagen Type 2, or Transporter, is still a hit among consumers, young and old. German automaker Volkswagen introduced the van in 1950 and a number of imitators, including the Ford Econoline and Chevrolet Corvan, followed. Modern versions of the Type 2 are still being produced overseas but North American drivers are out of luck.
