Older Canadians would roll their eyes at this one, but in fact there is one freebie of yesteryear that younger Canucks can groan about, too. For the generation that reads their news online, many sites are still free but the writing's on the wall that much content will soon come with a charge — if it hasn't already. Major newspapers like the The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times restrict content behind paywalls, and full access to these once-free sites can cost as much as $100 per year. Even fake news isn't free anymore: The Onion, the popular satire website, unveiled a paywall last year to readers outside the U.S.
