Length of maternity leave: 365 days
Per cent of wages paid during maternity leave: 80 before the birth and 150 days after and 50 during the rest of the leave

Albania was resilient to the recession, which works out well for the mothers in the country. Mothers can take a year off and initially receive 80 per cent of their pay, in which after 150 days they receive 50 per cent. The Balkan nation is the latest country to apply for EU membership, but it faces issues with corruption since the country ranks 113 out of 176 countries on the Corruption Perceptions Index. The country received aid from the United States and Europe to help with the transition from communism to a democratic government.
