Ikea’s game is furniture, not magic, but it was quite a disappearing act the retail giant pulled a few weeks ago when it digitally scrubbed an image from its signature catalogue. For the version that was sent to Saudi Arabia, a photo of a family of five (father, mother, two sons and a daughter) was instead presented as a family of three, with both females removed from the image.
After reports surfaced of the changed family, Swedish Ikea apologized for its catalogue blunder. The gaffe, however, was hardly the first of its kind. From branding nightmares to translation goofs, here are other big names that have committed international business blunders.
