Here are some positives of U.S. home ownership as well as some pointers to consider before you take the plunge.
Canadians are snapping up property bargains south of the border, making them the biggest segment of the United States' foreign buyer market. Having endured extreme house price increases in cities like Toronto and Vancouver, some Canadian homeowners are turning their sizable equities into investments. Others are cashing out portfolios or using savings to buy. Because of the mortgage crisis in the U.S. for the last five years, there are still major deals to be had -- although the markets are always changing. Some areas of the U.S. have already gone up in overall housing prices, and inventory is dropping. Canadian home buyers Rodney Hynes and Thomas Hunt purchased in Brooklyn, and in the year that they were looking, they saw prices go up as much as 40 per cent. But they still managed to get in the market at a reasonable price.
